Versus is a world that exists in a parallel dimension, apart from Earth. Versus is vast and wonderful with unique biomes, cultures, and technologies. Like our reality, the forward-thinking scientists of Versus developed blockchain technology. However, unlike our reality, the blockchain spawned something…new.
Scientists first noticed the phenomena as aberrant transactions and anomalous smart contracts. Over time strange sentient cryptographic creatures began to emerge spontaneously within the code of the blockchain, making their presence known. These creatures, these embodiments of living code, were named Cyphers.
Much of the world is centered around Cyphers with Cypher trainers regularly battling and training with their Cyphers. A few already established cities act as hubs for commerce.
The discovered world of the Versus Metaverse thus far is an island with many diverse biomes, peoples, technologies, and Cyphers. A few already established cities act as hubs for commerce.
Versus’ economy is powered by the Versus Token. A fiat backed stable value token. Citizens will be able to purchase Tokens and participate in the economy powered by tools provided to connect Citizens including job boards, auction houses, and carrier service. You will be able to complete jobs, craft items, collect resources and more to earn Versus Tokens. The economy provides the means to empower Citizens to shape the lands as they see fit.
Isochron A megacorporation. Isochron is the foremost researcher of Cyphers and most tech, medicine, and advancements in the world. They have improved a lot of lives, but they are also cold and concerned primarily with profits. It is widely known that they do secret research that may or may not be socially acceptable, but no one really knows what it is. A lot of speculation occurs about Isochron and they are a divisive topic. Many people love them, but some hate them. They blame them for any and all trouble in the world which could be warranted considering they are more powerful than any government. Some go so far as to organize against them and the centralization of power they bring.
0xers An underground rebel group. Anyone could be a 0xer. Members rarely identify themselves as such. They organize in the shadows of society to uncover Isochron secrets and work against their grasp on society. The ideal of the 0xers is decentralization. They don’t like a giant corporation owning so much and want to give more power to the people. Like Isochron, 0xers are divisive. Some people write them off as basement dwellers or as people who just aren’t willing to work hard to give themselves a good life.
Dr. Julian Reeves First scientist to document and catalog the existence of Cyphers. Before his research, Cyphers were rumors and myths. He was the first person to be able to tame a Cypher and have one as a companion. Without his brilliance enabling others to follow in his footsteps and tame Cyphers of their own the world may have fallen into chaos as more Cyphers continued coming into existence. He is now retired and spends his days enjoying life in Crustshore Bay.
Dr. Adam Link Chief Scientist of Isochron. A young charismatic genius. The foremost cypher researcher in the world and it’s not even close. He operates out of Isochron’s primary research facility in Ryeland Fjord. His creations power the world and he continually makes the impossible possible. His research has created the CypherDex, a device that can digitize both cyphers and physical items for storage and retrieval. The CypherDex changed the world, by making it easier for trainers to tame and manage Cyphers.
Versus Referee Is it one person that is somehow everywhere? Are they brothers? Clones? There is something vaguely unsettling about the Versus Referee’s dedication to his job. Possibly the most trusted person in the world, but his focus is completely singular on running battle arenas. He never changes out of his uniform and probably sleeps with his whistle by his side.
Sloan Leader of the 0xers. Or so they say. No one knows who Sloan is, not even the 0xers. What is known is that Sloan is an icon. Sloan’s leadership is what keeps the movement together and is what has led them to every major success.
Former Versus Champion Embre A world Icon. She is the most famous Cypher Trainer in history having prevailed repeatedly in world tournaments. She is retired from tournaments, but is still thought to be the best Cypher Trainer alive. She hails from Coalshimmer Vale and specializes in using fire Cyphers. She is thought to be unbeatable, but disappeared a few years ago. No one thinks she is dead and nearly everyone thinks she will re-emerge awaiting the day she comes back.
